Project Description
Woods Road Flood Control Design – Wildwood, MO
This project illustrates I&L’s roadway culvert design and flood control design capabilities. The City of Wildwood was experiencing frequent roadway and property flooding in multiple locations along lower Woods Road. In 2015, the City retained I&L to evaluate the flooding and develop alternative solutions. In 2019, the City retained I&L to design a series of roadway culvert and channel improvements to address the severe flooding.
I&L recommended a range of solutions to manage storm events ranging from a 10% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) event to a 1% AEP event with associated costs ranging from $700,000 to $1,600,000 respectively. Watershed hydrology was developed in HEC-HMS and hydraulic modeling was developed in HEC-RAS. Solutions include modifying 2 roadway and 5 driveway culverts and multiple associated channel and drainage modifications. Culverts included 2 10×10 foot box, 2 10×9 foot box, 1 10×8 foot box, 1 7×7 foot box, 1 6 foot pipe, 1 4 foot pipe, and 3 36-inch pipes. Drainage included multiple berms, swale, and channel improvements including grade control and armoring.
