Project Description
Arnold, MO Ellen Drive Stormwater
This project illustrates I&L’s enclosed stormwater system replacement and flood control design experience. As part of an on-call agreement, the City of Arnold, MO contracted I&L to design a replacement enclosed stormwater system. The existing system had been in use for about 65 years and had received numerous joint repairs. Phase 1 included evaluation of replacement or repair options, schematic layout, and cost estimates. Phase 2 included final design plans and specifications, permitting, easement documents, and bidding services.
In Phase 1, I&L surveyed the existing system and collected field data to document the existing conditions and drainage pathways, documenting potential challenges and opportunities for the final design. Our team also performed Hydraulic and Hydrologic Analysis, and prepared schematic layouts that highlighted the drainage area, proposed alignment, structure locations, easements, and potential construction access sites. We also provided a cost estimate based on the GIS layout and the Saint Louis Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD)’s unit cost database.
In Phase 2, I&L performed boundary and topographic surveying to produce 1-foot contours. Once the survey was completed, I&L developed the stormwater system hydraulic model and calculated flow rates for inlets and manholes. We coordinated with local utility companies to determine the extent of any conflicts and address potential plans to address them. Our engineers developed easement documents and prepared USACE 404 Nationwide, DNR 401, and Land Disturbance permits. Once these tasks were completed, our team produced final plans, a cost opinion, and construction documents for replacement of the existing storm sewer.
